Child Safety Tips
Parents
· Be a hands-on parent.
· Know your child's friends...and the people your child's friends spend time with.
· Join neighborhood block watch and community policing groups.

· Do not allow your child to visit other people's homes unless you know them
and trust them.
· Establish regular check-in procedures and times for occasions when your child
is not with you.
· Make your child feel comfortable talking with you about ANYTHING. Be
understanding, comforting, reassuring and nonjudgmental.
· Make it clear to your child that if someone touches them inappropriately or
attacks them, it is NEVER their fault, regardless of the circumstances.
· Exercise sound judgment when it comes to allowing others access to your
child. When in doubt, check them out!
· Put together a child identity kit
Missing Child
· Stay calm
· Make a careful search of your home and surrounding property.
· Check with playmates.
· Check favorite play areas.
· Call all friends, neighbors, and relatives.
· Call 911. Be prepared to give the following information:
- full physical description
- birthmarks or other marks of identification
- most recent photograph- fingerprint record card
- description of clothing worn at the time of disappearance
- medical problems
- recent problems at home, school, with playmates etc.
- possible/probable abduction by spouse or former spouse
- possible runaway: favorite clothes, possessions missing ?
- If possible abduction by a parent, does child have own passport?
- Is child recorded on passport of other parent?
· Organize a search party of friends and relatives
· Leave someone at home in case your child returns or calls.
